It was very easy to use although I still found myself using repl.it to create my code for its visual error notifications. It provides an easy way for us to study the material. Fantastic! Pretty good, liked how it really showed the steps and you had to work through it. I found that the compiler was "pickier" than the compiler I use for c++ while also not having an easily accessible debug function for submitting lab code. I appreciated the ability to have instructors supply their own material. I think it's really good for studying and practice. If you're going to punch a minority, punch up not down. Zybooks is one of the best way of self-learning. I really like the interactive part of zyBooks. Availability I've really enjoyed doing the activities as I learn. It has numerous spelling and grammar errors as well as confusing material. Very helpful. Each zyBook chapter contains animations, questions and interactive elements that help students internalize challenging concepts. I find that learning with interactive material on zyBooks is more beneficial than just reading examples and notes. This is an amazing application. zyBooks use animations to dynamically illustrate complex concepts. I find the slow pace of the animations (even at 2x speed) to be annoying sometimes, especially when there are a dozen or more so unskippable steps. However resources in the book including interactive opportunities to compile C++ helped me pick up skills quickly but were at time frustrating to use due to adding whitespace out of habit that would mark answers wrong. It was much more engaging and I learned a lot faster with the zybooks this semester. I like the format of teaching and then testing. The animations are also super helpful when trying to understand a concept. Clearly, some of those 50% of students are going to be upset they cant access our content free or just ignore it (due to points). I thought the videos were the best partipant activities because I had to watch those instead of skimming or skipping over the text. So many online sources don't do that but I like that it encourages students to learn from mistakes. I think it is for the most part good, but there are labs that are far more challenging than what we are prepared for in the lessons. Upon switching to zyBooks in 2013, then integrating new zyBook features as they appeared (homework, program auto-grading), and adjusting teaching to use best practices around zyBooks, one sees that the first-year retention rate steadily rose since 2013 to about 90% and has been steady there ever since. For example, I think it was in the chapter about user defined functions where the challenges incorporated vectors and classes, something I that had not been covered at all previously, hence, I had a lot of difficulty figuring it out. I thought it was helpful. Some concepts like Linked-Lists are very confusing to grasp at first especially understanding pointers but the animations made it very clear for me. It works well paired with in classroom teaching etc. The challenge and participation activities we're useful to go back and look at previous examples but in the moment I would just speed through them for the grade as there was no proper incentive not to.
