We have had an excellent start to 2023 regarding the water and snow situations in the San Jacinto mountains. Both storms produced more snow than was generally forecast. It has been a grim winter for search-and-rescue teams. Early on cold mornings, the icy snow is grippy, and I did not find spikes necessary on 5th. Locations in Pine Cove up to 6500 ft were reporting 3.1 to 3.8 inches of rain by 0500 today. Since the depths given in the previous Report, there has been some melting at higher elevations which have been above the cloud at times, and below 7000 ft where temperatures have remained above freezing for several days.
